non-verbal and verbal comms

conventional wisdom is that 75-80% of comms is non-verbal, while it can be overestimate it holds some truth from the speakers point of view.
however since very rare people are trained into like deception detection analysts or otherwise exposed to behavioural analysis area etc they are likely to interprete non-verbal communication wrongly - like crossing arms, what if i feel comfortable - due we being individuals the person interpreting my message needs to understand my background, how signs mean for me, my personalitype etc, so without knowing these it actually can increase misinterpretation - or rather alternate understanding, disorientation, so limiting extra comms(and assumptions based on gender, race age etc when seeing face to face) helps to go for more universal understanding - thoughts on brain are interpreted by voice/signs done by speaker due no direct brain impulse based comm exist yet.

This about intent and meaning of what one communicates and how it is interpreted. Even deception detection does not rely on sign/signs only, but figures out what they mean on this person. Nor does lie detection machine detect lies, it detects signs of something which then need interpretation.
One good anecdote for this is "france is bacon", which is used as a phrase to describe situation where someone did not understood something correctly.

And this also brings issue about words, what a word mean to other person, especially expressed in foreign language (direct translation word to word, or intended meaning can be different), languages also evolve - it is said one language taught in schools in my country represent version that was spoken 1950s in native place, and there is difference on low context language translated to high context on word to word and not meaning. Like idioms might be totally different between languages but meaning is same. Also naturally tone, timing can affect as well.
Below also link to study which claims the same being behind of most alternate understandings on the meetings, not that people have different goals, but they "speak" and "hear" different language based on their diverse backgrounds.

So there are lot of things that can affect communication being misinterpreted. Be it verbal, non-verbal - which also can include written, clothing etc.
One way to make intent of the message more understandable is the usage of metaphors - originally from the greek means word "transfer" - which allows the meaning of intended message be better seen across multiple disciplines.
another conventional wisdom is to use this Pareto principle for everything.
